In solitary confinement

Da and I arranged to meet at the MRT station near our office after work today. We intended to visit ET at the hospital.

ET had undergone surgery today to remove a growth in his back.

As the hospital is located in the West part of Singapore, we took a MRT train to Buona Vista MRT station, intending to take a connecting shuttle bus to the hospital. However, when we arrived at the Buona Vista MRT station, we saw a signboard informing commuters that the shuttle bus to the hospital was now departing from Dover MRT station instead.

Finally, we alighted at Dover MRT station.

As we walked out of the MRT station, we saw a clear signboard directing us to the shuttle bus to National University Hospital ("NUH").

Praise the Lord! When we arrived at the waiting area for the shuttle bus, we saw that the shuttle bus was already there and awaiting passengers. When we boarded the shuttle bus, it was about half full of passengers. As we saw down, the bus driver drove off. What wonderful timing!

The shuttle bus drove directly to NUH. ET had undergone day surgery at NUH today and as such, he was warded at the day surgery ward.

When we alighted from the Main Wing of NUH, we checked with the information counter and were informed that the day surgery ward is located at Kent Ridge Wing instead. Fortunately, the 2 Wings are connected and we found the Kent Ridge Wing easily.

En route to the Kent Ridge Wing, we passed by a Mr Bean outlet. For the uninitiated, I am referring to the food chain selling soya bean products and not the television/movie character played by Rowan Atikinson. We bought some piping hot tokiwado, which is a type of Japanese pancake. Each costs S$1+, depending on the filling that you want. We actually ordered 8 pieces (of assorted filling). We were pleasantly surprised when the outlet staff told us that they were having a promotion - a dozen pieces (of assorted filling) for S$10. What a bonus!

After the detour, we finally arrived at Kent Ridge Wing and took the elevator up to Level 2.

ET had undergone surgery at the Day Surgery Centre this morning.

Directly opposite the Day Surgery Centre was the Day Surgery Ward, where ET was resting.

We were not sure which Bed ET was located and as such, we had to check with the staff nurse. He was at Bed 11, which was a single-bed in a room. Some of the other beds are in sections where there are 6 or 8 beds (I cannot recall the exact number) in a room.

Not only did ET have a "single-room", he could even watch cable television in the room!

When Da and I entered the room, we got a shock. It looked more like a party than solitary confinement! SY, Supercute and Tau Suan had brought snacks to cheer up ET. Oops, I meant that they brought along snacks for their own private party. *grin*

It was ET's first hospital stay in his life. We teased him mercilessly about the sexy hospital garb that he had to wear.

ET was placed on a drip because he had fasted since the night before and such, he was given some nourishment via drip treatment.

Everyone is thankful that the surgery went smoothly.

Rest well, ET... and see you tomorrow for salad and yong tauhu!
