Happy Birthday, Nining

Today is the birthday of little Nining. She turns three.

Da and I attended Nining's birthday celebrations this evening. We brought along a present that we had bought for her.

When we arrived, the birthday girl was "hard at work". Although she will only be attending nursery in a year or two, she is eager to learn and has started to practise writing and drawing. She has a little schoolbag of her own. She even props up the mouse pad and pretends that it is a computer monitor!

The birthday dinner menu? Crab beehoon! I could smell the aroma as soon as I stepped into the kitchen.

Two types of beehoon were used by ET when cooking the dish - thick beehoon and thin beehoon. In addition to crabs, green leafy vegetables and clams were also added to the soup. As a result, the soup was very tasty. Bon appetit!

The crab beehoon was accompanied by belinjo crackers that Da and I had brought along. If you are a chilli-eater, then you would enjoy eating the belinjo crackers with homemade chilli sauce.

After dinner, the mahjong table was brought out and a few rounds of mahjong were played by Supercute, Tau Suan, Calla Lily and SY. Excited shouts of "I was waiting for that tile!", "Why did I throw this tile away?", "arrrggghhhh!", etc were heard throughout the game. Halfway through the game, Big Foot arrived (he had just finished coaching golf) and he joined in the game.

Finally! Cake time! We had brought along a chocolate fruit cake that I had baked. This cake is easy to bake. I have posted the recipe in an earlier post.

SY, with the assistance of Calla Lily, Supercute and Tau Suan, had baked a beautiful birthday cake. If the lollipops on top of the cake look like Chupa Chups to you, that is because they are!

The birthday girl was given a big kiss from her proud Papa.

The birthday cake is an amazing creation. It is 3-tiered with whipped cream and blueberries in between each layer. The outside of the cake is decorated with cereal, marshmallows, gummies, Chupa Chups, etc.

I thought that SY had baked 3 cakes. However, she explained that she had baked 1 cake and used a cake cutter (see photograph below) to cut the cake cross-section. What an amazing contraption! I wonder where I can buy it from?

The cake that we brought was also cut by SY.

As such, every one had 2 slices of cake each to eat. Yummy!

The birthday girl certainly had a great time. She alternated between each type of cake and the Chupa Chups.

Happy Birthday, Nining! Stay sweet and adorable. Before you know it, you will be breaking the hearts of many handsome young men!
