The visit

Da and I visited MIL at the hospital today. She was in reasonably fine spirits but was fretting about how to spend the next few weeks in hospital. She has just been informed by her doctor that she may need to remain in the hospital for another six weeks or thereabouts.

Although the doctor has removed the fluid in her knee by way of surgery, it seems that the infection has spread to the bone in her knee. As such, she is now on antibiotic treatment every few hours (round the clock) and is likely to be on antibiotic treatment for the next six weeks.

In view of the anticipated long period of intravenous injection of antibiotics into her body, she had a procedure done today at the hospital where a catheter was inserted through her right arm and into her body.

We brought MIL to the nearby Qi Ji cafe for a meal. During the course of the meal, she revealed that she is not feeling fearful of her medical condition and is instead taking each day as it comes.

MIL, I want to encourage you not to remain passive. Resist the evil one. This is spiritual warfare! Sicknesses and diseases are attacks on the body of Christ. As we have accepted Christ as our Salvation, our Redeemer and our Healer, He took our sicknesses and diseases at the Cross so that we can be healthy and whole.

Is it often a challenge to look to the Cross and believe the unseen? I will be the first to admit that it is.

Romans 4:17 says that God gives life to the dead and calls those things which do not exist as though they did. When we are going through a difficult stage in our life, even though we know that we are children of the Most High God and we believe that He sent His Son to die for us at the Cross, sometimes the pain of what we are going through makes it difficult for us to pray and to raise our voices in praise and worship. We do not know what to say in prayer nor do we know how to start praying. All we want to do is to hide in one corner and cry till our hearts break. Others who do not understand what we are going through may give well-meaning words of comfort that end up hurting us more. At a time like this, how do we look to the Cross and believe that by Jesus' stripes, we are healed? I understand how difficult it can be. I want to encourage you to spend as much time as you can with the Word and meditate upon the Word. Let the Lord heal your heart and let Him increase your faith. At the end of the day, no amount of advice from the rest of us will make much of a difference. Only the Lord can reach deep into your inner self.

We are all praying for you, MIL and we are believing God that you will be discharged from the hospital fully recovered soon.
