Happy Birthday, FIL

It is FIL's birthday today. Many happy returns of the day!

Yesterday, Da ordered a 1.2 kg durian cake from Emicakes. This chain of cake shops has several outlets but he decided to collect the cake from their head office at Eunos Technolink before the birthday party this evening. In the afternoon, we made our way to Eunos Technolink.

Emicakes' head office is located at Block 5.

We had some difficulty locating the elevator, which was hidden at one corner. After some searching, we managed to locate the elevator and we were able to take the elevator up to the storey where Emicakes' head office was located.

On the way of GN's home in Punggol, Da and I fetched FIL and MIL from their home. We arrived just as GN and FM were preparing dinner.

There was a large dinner spread. First up, pig trotters with braised hard boiled eggs.

The tempeh was cooked with chilli.

The curry fish head was spicy and was served with ladies' fingers and tomatoes.

The stir-fried vegetables were served in a claypot. Ardy did not want to eat the black fungus but she was happily eating the limpets.

The green leafy vegetables were stir-fried with prawns and wolfberries. Wolfberries are believed to be good for one's eyes.

I enjoyed the salad. Squid handed to me a sesame salad dressing that is sold at the Japanese food section of NTUC Supermarket.

What you see in the photograph below are papadums. However, according to YK, the papadums were baked in an oven instead of deep fried.

The corn, carrot, chicken and wolfberries soup was sweet and the taste of the corn was distinctive.

There was also "gong-gong" (I am not sure what the English name for this is). Certainly not for the faint-hearted!

It was certainly a large dinner spread. As in all gatherings, there were plenty of leftovers.

The family made their own shandy by mixing Heineken beer with sprite.

After dinner, everyone shared a large plate of cut fruits.

Finally, time to cut the cake!

Ardy had made her own jelly with nata de coco. Well done, girl!
