Magnificat

The Magnificat (also known as the Song of Mary) is a hymn taken from the Bible sung (or spoken) in Christian church services.

The text of the hymn is taken from the Gospel of Luke (Luke 1:46-55) where it is spoken by Mary (mother of Jesus) upon the occasion of her visit to her cousin Elizabeth (wife of Zacharias). After Mary greeted Elizabeth (who was pregnant with John the Baptist), Elizabeth was filled with the Holy Spirit and the child moved within Elizabeth's womb. Elizabeth greeted Mary with utmost joy and praised Mary for her faith. Mary sang the Magnificat in response.

Jesus, You substituted Your sinless life for our sinful life and thereby assured us of eternal life. You vanquished the devil's hold on our lives and initiated us into the family of God. You have overthrown the power of sin and reconciled us to a holy God.

Thank You, Father that You loved us to much that you sent Your only begotten Son to die for us. I am humbled by Your love. Amen.

MAGNIFICAT

My soul doth magnify the Lord.

And my spirit hath rejoiced in God my Saviour.

Because he hath regarded the humility of his handmaid; for behold from henceforth all generations shall call me blessed.

Because he that is mighty, hath done great things to me; and holy is his name.

And his mercy is from generation unto generations, to them that fear him.

He hath shewed might in his arm: he hath scattered the proud in the conceit of their heart.

He hath put down the mighty from their seat, and hath exalted the humble.

He hath filled the hungry with good things; and the rich he hath sent empty away.

He hath received Israel his servant, being mindful of his mercy.

As he spoke to our fathers, to Abraham and to his seed for ever.
