Mama drama

We are Singapore
We are Singapore
We're a nation strong and free forever more

This is my country
This is my flag
This is my future
This is my life

This is my family
These are my friends
We are Singapore, Singaporeans

Majullah Singapura!

It is our National Day today!

In celebration of our multi-racial society, Da's parents, Da and I went to an Indian stall for banana leaf lunch.

The stall is located in a coffeeshop along Crane Road:-

When we arrived at the coffee shop, we had difficulty finding parking space. Da's father had to park a distance away and we had to walk in the blistering sun to the coffeeshop. I wished that I had brought along my hat!

Finally, the end was in sight. Goodness me! The coffee shop was crowded! Other than the Indian curry stall, the prawn mee stall is reputed to be famous as well.

While my in-laws made their selection of dishes, Da and I found a table and we sat down. Although there were other stalls in the coffeeshop, I noticed that most of the patrons were eating either prawn mee or Indian banana leaf curry.

After a short wait, our food arrived.

My in-laws had ordered 3 dishes:-
(a) fish head curry
(b) mutton rendang
(c) chicken tika

Goodness me! The spread cried out "coconut milk overload"! Having said this, I must admit that the dishes were very tasty (albeit spicy).

The fish in the fish head curry that we had was red snapper. As I was eating the fish, I recalled that a colleague mentioned yesterday that he is unable to distinguish between red snapper and tilapa. I mentioned this to my in-laws. According to my mother-in-law, tilapa is a cheaper fish and can be purchased from the wet markets for as cheap as S$2 per fish.

Burp! As is common each time anyone eats banana leaf curry, we over-ate. Although there were only 3 dishes, due to the liberal content of coconut milk, I became full very fast.

No banana leaf curry meal would be complete without lime juice, so I ordered that to complete my meal.

I would say that this stall's food is not bad and is worth a 2nd try. However, they do not have a wide variety of dishes (unlike the banana leaf curry restaurants in Little India). Furthermore, there is no air-conditioning.

Now..look who's the one who is factoring the "air-conditioning" element into the choice of food places...
