Makan escapade - Day 4 (3 January 2009)

3 January is a special day for us. It is the birthday of my Uncle R and my brother LB. Happy birthday, guys! May the Lord continue to bless you and keep you safe in the shadows of His Almighty! Love you guys!

Breakfast on 3 January 2009 was at a Village Park Restaurant (if I remember the name correctly), a restaurant that specialises in nasi lemak.

One of the specialties is their ayam goreng (that is, deep fried chicken). Delicious! The food is, however, quite pricey. I ordered tempeh and beef rendang. My plate came with the 2 ingredients that I ordered, coconut rice, cucumber slices, peanuts, anchovies and hard boiled egg - it cost RM7.10.

After breakfast, my mother, my Aunt N, my cousin PY and I went to 1 Utama, a shopping mall located in Petaling Jaya.

The shopping mall is so large that it has two wings - the old wing and the new wing. It is simply mind-boggling.

Aunt N and I adjourned to The Curve, a shopping mall located next to 1 Utama while my mother and my cousin PY decided to go back first.

At The Curve, I managed to buy one of Lat's comics at Borders Book Store. He is my favourite cartoonist.

Having visited Mid Valley Megamall, 1 Utama and The Curve, I would have to say that I prefer Mid Valley Megamall.

There was a flea market located at the walkway between The Curve and Ikano Power Centre (yes, another shopping mall). Aunt N and I browsed the stalls at the flea market and I managed to buy 2 packets of marbles. No, I do not intend to play with the marbles. I intend to place the marbles in the vase with my Chinese money plant.

At Ikano Power Centre, Aunt N and I decided to take a coffee break and we headed for Kluang Station. It seems that years ago, someone set up a stall at the bus station in Kluang for travellers to quench their thirst while waiting for their bus. This stall has expanded into a franchise.

Aunt N ordered a black coffee while I ordered a coffee with milk. We could not resist ordering a toasted bread bun (filled with butter/margarine and kaya) to share.

Unlike at Mid Valley Megamall, we did not do much shopping at 1 Utama, The Curve and Ikano Power Centre. I find that the shops at the latter 3 shopping malls appear to be more upmarket than Mid Valley Megamall.

Dinner time! Uncle T brought everyone to a coffee shop near his home.

Uncle T ordered KL Hokkien Mee and hor fun (that is, flat rice noodles). I love eating KL Hokkien Mee although I have to admit that it is not good for my waistline!

While waiting for the food to arrive, Uncle J ordered Penang lobak. We were all amused when the stallholder (an elderly lady) called Uncle J "uncle". Goodness me! She is older than him!

Aunt H told us that she has rojak sauce, chopped peanuts and pineapple. As such, we went to Tesco Supermarket (which is located near The Curve) to buy turnip and cucumber.

Back at Uncle J's and Aunt J's home, my Aunt N, my cousin TK and I started preparing the ingredients for the rokjak. It was a simple case of peeling the turnip and slicing the turnip, cucumber and pineapple before mixing the ingredients with the rojak sauce and the chopped peanuts. Mouth-watering indeed!

Another night... another mahjong session. What more can I say? This is the life!

My mom, my Aunt N and I will be leaving Kuala Lumpur on 4 January 2009. Sigh... one last round of eating and shopping on 4 January 2009 before we make our way back..... My luggage is not yet full.
